Free Online Day Skipper theory trial

Too cold to go sailing so now is a good time to concentrate on that Day Skipper theory course.  Study your theory first, spend more time sailing.  More advanced skippers can now take advantage of our Advanced Navigation Yachtmaster Theory course, also available online.  Many of our clients are opting to use this as a navigation refresher prior to a Yachtmaster Preparation course, not a bad idea if your secondary ports are not second nature.  It’s easier to have a look than read this, so click here for a free interactive training session. Join us at the Gibraltar Yachtmaster Conference. There is a free open conference in Gibraltar all about Yachtmaster Training courses from 23 – 24 March 2013 at Allabroad Sailing Academy, everyone is most welcome to attend. There will be free interactive instructional sessions on boat handling, rope-work, Radar, VHF; discussion groups about import duty, yachting regulations and recruitment advice. We are currently arranging more training dates for 2013 due to the popularity of our Yachtmaster Motor Fast Track training courses. Next available dates will be posted here as will the latest news regarding cancellations or last minute availability.  We can now offer weekly ICC and Day Skipper Motor courses all year round on our superb 47 foot Prestige Motor Cruiser, as always, STCW95 Basic Safety Training courses are ran every other week.

Convert your Patron de Yate to RYA Yachtmaster

Switch over to the most widely accepted Maritime qualification in the world.

It is now possible to convert your Spanish Patron de Yate to the internationally recognised  RYA Yachtmaster Offshore but it is far from a simple paperwork exercise as the Spanish Patron de Yate qualification and the RYA Yachtmaster are somewhat different. After personally delivering various bespoke courses in this area a pattern has evolved sufficient for us to design a Switchover course in both Sail and Motor that specifically targets all the missing elements.  The course is 10 days in total consisting of 5 days theory, 4 days practical training, and 1 day exam. For those wishing to work as an International Yachtmaster this can be extended by a further 5 days with the MCA STCW95 Basic Safety Training.

It is possible to achieve your Day Skipper with just one week off work

The RYA Day Skipper course is the minimum requirement for chartering a Yacht;  many bare boat charter companies are clamping down due to increased insurance premiums, and many marinas in Spain and France are checking qualifications before allowing you to enter.  It has now, however, never been easier to achieve your Day Skipper course in just 9 days with just one week off work.  Courses run every week for individuals and it is also possible to combine your training with a holiday, by chartering the whole yacht with an instructor,  as many of our clients from 2012 have done.  This has a massive advantage in that you can all practice handling the yacht as a team and see if it’s something everyone enjoys, plus you know who you will be sailing with!   The advantage of booking with Allabroad in Gibraltar is that we have great weather all year round, larger yachts, and a dedicated classroom facility right next to the yachts.

I put this down to the Experience, Expertise, Energy and relentless Enthusiasm of our prep instructors Tony, Pat and Nick, these guys are there to push hard on safety, navigation and  borderline fanatical about precision yacht control under sail and motor. Well…. You have to be, things do go wrong at sea; the steepest learning curve any skipper faces is how to deal with things when they do.

To maintain the intensity Allabroad prep courses are limited to 4 clients per boat and delivered by some of the best full Yachtmaster Instructors around,  theoretical elements such as technicalities with Radar, AIS, Marpa, DSC VHF, ECDIS, Diesel Engine, and Chart-work, are delivered by me Dave Punch (Principal) in the evenings in one of our 3 classrooms to maximise your time on the water.  The 3 shore-based classrooms are open 24 7 for practice chart work, study and revision.

Pickle In Gibraltar

The modern ocean Village Skyline has a more traditional feel with the addition of the new 73ft twin-masted tall ship Pickle. The exact replica of the 1799-built original Pickle will become a permanent fixture and tourist attraction for the marina.

Famous for her role at the Battle of Trafalgar where she raced home to give the King in London the news of Lord Nelson’s death and British victory over the combined Spanish and French fleet.

The near exact replica was constructed in 1996 and has visited Gibraltar many times, what better place to base such a vessel. She will be available for corporate charter but moreover provides a great tourist attraction for the magnificent Ocean Village.

I may have to ask the Owner if I can borrow her at the weekend, anyone interested in RYA Competent Cannon?
